Ambilobe Panther Chameleon Locale

Ambilobe is a town in the north west of Madagascar. Males from the Ambilobe Panther chameleon locale come in two color morphs, blue barred, and red barred. Some individual males display a mixture of the two morphs. Males from Ambilobe typically have a yellow background color with red or blue barring. Color combinations can be quite variable and can include greens, blues, yellows, and oranges, along with the red and/or blue barring. The Y bar is usually well defined in individuals from this locale.

Like males from the Sirama locale, they are sometimes referred to as “Picasso” Panther chameleons in the pet trade. Blue bar Ambilobe males look similar to males from the Sirama locale, but can be distinguished by the raised red scales present in Sirama males.
